Getting the most out of Butula Vocational and Training Center E-Library

A quick walkthrough of everything you can do — from finding a textbook to changing your password.

Getting started

You can browse the full catalogue and every department without an account — titles, authors, course codes, and file sizes are all visible to anyone. Signing in unlocks three things: reading or downloading a file, tracking your reading progress, and seeing your personal shelf stats on the home page.

Head to Sign Up, or use the "Sign in with Google" option if your institutional email is a Google account.

Finding materials

There are three ways to find what you're looking for, depending on how specific you already are:

1

Search from the home page

Type into the search bar on the home page — it matches titles, course codes, and genres as you type, with results appearing right below the bar. Press Enter or click See all results to jump to the full catalogue with your search already applied.

2

Browse the full catalogue

Visit Catalogue to see everything at once. Use the search bar there to filter by title, author, course code, genre, or year — and use the category pills (Book, Assignment, CAT, Exam) to narrow it down further. The page loads 30 materials at a time; click Load more to see additional results.

3

Browse by category on the home page

Scroll down on the home page to see materials grouped by category, with a horizontal preview of the first 10 — click See all to view the full list on the catalogue page.

Reading & downloading

Every resource card has two actions — both require you to be signed in:

Read

Opens the document directly in your browser. Your reading progress is saved automatically as you go, so you can pick up where you left off later.

Download

Saves a copy of the file to your device for offline access. This doesn't affect your reading progress — it's just a copy.

If you click Read or Download while signed out, you'll be redirected to the login page first — just sign in and you can return to what you were looking at.

Browsing by department

Visit Departments to see the school organized by faculty instead of by material type.

1

Pick a department

Each card shows how many lecturers and materials belong to that department. Use the search bar at the top to jump straight to one.

2

View department materials

Opening a department shows every resource uploaded by its lecturers, with its own search bar to filter within that department specifically.

3

See who's publishing

The sidebar lists every lecturer in that department. Click a lecturer's name to expand a year-by-year breakdown of what they've uploaded.

Your shelf & reading progress

Once you're signed in, the home page shows two personal stats next to the library-wide totals:

On your shelf

The number of materials you've opened to read at least once — this builds automatically as you use Read on resource cards.

Reading streak

Counts consecutive days you've read something. Read at least one item a day to keep it going — missing a day resets it to zero.

Any material you've started appears under Continue Reading on the home page, with a progress bar showing how far along you are — click it to jump straight back in.

Your profile

Click your name or the account icon in the header to open your Profile page. It shows your name, email, role, and — if you're a student — your registration number, course of study, and period of study.

Editing your details

Click Edit Details on your profile page to update your name, bio, or academic info. Your email can't be changed — it's tied to your login.

Changing your password

From Edit Profile, scroll down to the Security section.

1

Enter your current password

This confirms it's really you before anything changes — required for security, even if you're already signed in.

2

Enter a new password

Must be at least 6 characters. Use the eye icon on either field to check what you've typed before submitting.

3

Click Update Password

If your current password doesn't match, you'll see an error and can try again — nothing changes until both fields are correct.

Signed in with Google? Your password is managed by Google, not here — use Google's own account settings to change it instead.
